Learning Goals

The objectives of the course are to develop in the student the following skills in the areas of companion animals, horses, production and exotic animals, by knowing how to:
- correctly collect samples of tissues, cells and physiological liquids;
- ship properly the samples for different laboratorial procedures;
- complete requests for laboratory tests and other complementary diagnostic tests;
- know the samples processing before and after shipping
- perform the techniques of laboratory diagnostic means, and interpret the results;

Contents

Tutored on-site accompanying of laboratory technical activities of clinical analysis, histopathology and pathological anatomy, microbiology and parasitology in the areas of companion animals, horses, production and exotic animals.
Tutored face-to-face accompanying of clinical procedures where samples are collected for laboratory analysis, according to standardized and biosafety procedures.

Teaching Methods

Each student will perform two shifts of three consecutive hours, in each of the four hospital service laboratories (clinical analyses, histopathology and pathological anatomy, microbiology, parasitology) each semester, whose activities will be recorded and validated in a logbook.
At the end of each semester, a seminar will be organized to promote problem-based learning discussion of practical problems.
Continuous assessment: assessment of the skills of each student, demonstrated by performing three procedures per semester, recorded on video.
If the student does not approve the submitted procedure, he / she will have a second opportunity to submit a new video, considering the teachers' suggestions.
The student approves if he obtains a minimum of 12 values in each of the procedures under evaluation.
The final grade is the average of the grades obtained.
Exam evaluation: performed procedures before a jury. The student approves with a minimum classification of 10 values.
