Objectives:
- Understand the technical and economic concepts most directly associated with the agricultural
enterprises, for application in the elaboration and evaluation of agricultural projects.
- Understand the agricultural undertaking in structural and functional aspects: (i) an integrated approach
focusing on the interactions between available resources and production activities; (ii) an analytical
approach to realizing consumption/allocation of the various factors of production in each main activity and
subsidiary.
Skills:
- Draw up budgets for activities and global budgets.
- Undertake analyses of investment.
- Take decisions on technical and economic feasibility of production activities, global exploration budgets
and investment proposals in the framework of the agricultural undertaking.

Contents

- The concepts associated with the agricultural undertaking: concept of enterprise and farm; specificities
of the agricultural undertaking; the process of production in the agricultural context.
- Concepts related with the economics of agricultural production: the production, supply, demand,
elasticity, markets and prices.
- Investment and projects: basic notions; framework in the context of the agricultural enterprise; the
classification of the investments.
- Concepts and principles associated with the financial and economic analysis of agricultural enterprise;
rates and values; capitalization and updating; inventory of agricultural capital.
- Technical-economic evaluation of productive activities: indicators and activity budgets of viability.
- Global and estimates budgets: the process of preparing and main results to consider.
- Investment analysis: time factors and inflation; the criteria of profitability.
- Decision-making: strategies; the array of decision; decision criteria.

Teaching Methods

The lecture aims to explanatory concepts and principles, encouraging research and interpretation of
information. The practical classes are intended to carry out case studies and problem solving concerning
subjects taught. Care must be taken that students have active participation, promoting the analysis and
discussion of topics.
Assessment: written test in the middle and end of the semester or final exam.
