These unit aims provide students with generic knowledge of the tourist activity into the world-wide scale and understanding the tourist phenomena and its interaction with the space. Characterizing, analyzing and understanding the main tourist flows will be the specific focus of that generic approach. Mainly, it’s intended that students develop several abilities to endowing them with knowledge: O1 to identify the main factors that are responsible for the present space distribution and its evolution and identify trends; O2 Recognize the main international organizations and their activities in the different fields of activity; O3 Characterize the major receiving and sending regions in terms of international tourism; Recognize the data collection tools and use them to analyze the information associated with the characterization of international tourist flows; O4 Identify and analyze the characteristics of the main issuing markets for Portugal.

Teaching Methods

Active learning methods are encouraged to encourage students to develop the ability to assimilate content in an autonomous and participatory manner. The pedagogical practice favors the analysis of current information, privileging the exploration of case studies (individually and / or between peers), so that students can direct their learning and explore their knowledge reflecting on real situations, preparing them for the professional practice in this field. In the second part of the semester, learning is based on the development, presentation and defense of a work with the aim of students exploring and acquiring additional knowledge in an integrated manner, covering the different topics of the program. Assessment: 40% Frequency and 60% Work. Exams: 100% Frequency.
