1. Acquisition of the necessary knowledge to establish a coherent methodology of heritage intervention. Recognition of heritage history, construction and urban or landscape contexts;
2. Acquisition of theoretical skills aiming to develop a critical knowledgeable for heritage analysis.
3. Use or manipulation of indispensable tools for the development of an interpretation ability and criticism to practice the intervention project;
4. Acquisition of research methodologies and of practical skills for the management of heritage property.

Contents

1. Theory and history of intervention in architectural heritage, preservation and renewal
- Introduction to practices of intervention (definition of concepts and terminology).
- History of preservation and renewal: origin and evolution.
- Theory and methodologies of intervention
2. Intervention into heritage
- Diagnosis of pathologies.
- Previous study to intervention.
- The intervention project.
- Preservation methodologies
- Procedures and constructive techniques for intervention.
- The architect as coordinator of a multidisciplinary team
3. Management and tutelage of heritage
- Letters, recommendations and international conventions about heritage.
- The tutelage of heritage and support programs for heritage classification

Teaching Methods

The subject consists in theoretical-practical classes, with a workload of 3 hours per week. The teaching methodology includes the aspect of exposure of theoretical and programmatic contents, which will be complemented with a practical work by students. This dimension will be articulated with cases studies and site visits to exemplary work into the domain of architectonic heritage.
Evaluation encloses a group work, an individual test and participation in classes, with the following weights in the final grade:
- Work group (3 members maximum): 40%
- Test: 50%
- Participation in classes: 10%
