II. Identify the causes, manifestations and effects of territorial asymmetries;
III. To know the European Regional Policy (rationale, objectives, instruments and background)
IV. To know the Portuguese Regional Policy (rationale, objectives, instruments and background)
V. To identify the articulation of the Portuguese Regional Policy with the European Regional Policy, using the main strategy documents.
VI. To know the planning and development instruments (and planning and environment): from Central Administration bodies; at the sub-regional level; and at the local level.

Teaching Methods

METHODOLOGY
Considering the theoretical-practical nature of the course unit, the teaching methodology adopted conciliates techniques of oral presentation of the subject and techniques of individual and group work, namely:
I. Oral presentation using information and communication technologies, research articles, texts in specialist journals
II. Practical exercises in class.
III. Out-of-class work exercise (Group Work) accompanied by the teacher.
IV. Case studies and/or study visits
V. Participation of guest speakers in some sessions (CCDR technicians, local authorities, development associations and experts associated with european funding programmes)

EVALUATION
I. Written test of knowledge (60%)
II. Individual work (for pupils in the final examination) (40%)
III. Group work on a planning instrument and its oral presentation, which includes public discussion with the teacher (40%)
