Learning Goals

This semester course aims at reinforcing the practice of English skills and acquisition of technical vocabulary in English for Tourism to develop the linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic competences, so each student is able to:
• understand oral and written language in different styles and grammatical/lexical difficulties.
• produce oral and written language using different styles and grammatical/lexical varieties.
• develop his/her autonomy and creativity.

Teaching Methods

Due to the practical nature of the course, the methodology adopted will focus on the acquisition and development of the four skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading), vocabulary and grammar. Classes will be structured based on the first 6 units (Units 1 to 6) of the book Tourism 2 or another up to date textbook on the same topics (see reference in bibliography). According to the Regulamento Escolar Interno da Universidade de Évora and the Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos defined by the Departamento de Linguística e Literaturas, students may choose between two types of assessment: (1) continuous or (2) exam.
