Course that aims to study the concepts and theories of the musical rhythm and meter, with special emphasis on music of the Western tradition. Developing the capacity of analysis and reasoning on the musical parameters of rhythm and meter in an isolated state or in conjunction with other parameters. Evolution of rhythmic proficiency through performance in small ensembles of percussion.

- Rhythm linear analysis as in Carl Schachter
- Rhythmic and metric analysis in Lerdhal and Jackendoff
- The stratification of musical rhythm by Maury Yeston
- Study of the empirically based theoretical construction Just in Time
- Study and interpretation of rhythmic music for small percussion ensemble
- Rhythmic improvisation.

Teaching Methods
Theoretical with some practical component in order to experience some of the discussed concepts. Continuous evaluation with submission of two projects each one consisting of a written part and practical performance.
