Learning Goals

The Microeconomics I course focus on the analysis of the behaviour of economic agents on certainty and uncertainty context as well as on the equilibrium in competitive markets.
The course intends to provide students with solid knowledge on microeconomics, with an appropriate understanding of the optimisation decisions, giving them the necessary skills to analyse and interpret critically microeconomic problems.

Contents

1- Consumer decision; revealed preference.
2- Utility maximization; demand.
3- Topics on consumer theory: consumption duality.
4- Consumer theory applications:labor supply and intertemporal choice
5- Uncertainty.
6- Technological Constraints.
7- Cost Minimization.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods include:
- Oral exposition of theoretical concepts;
- Analysis and discussion of several questions and exercises supplied in advance, which are directed related
to the theoretical contents.
The evaluation of this curricular unit is defined in line with the Academic Regulation and comprises two alternatives:
Continuous assessment - two written tests, with equal weights for the final grade; a minimum grade of 7 in 20 in both tests is required.
Assessment by examination – one written examination, accounting for 100% of the final grade.
