- To know the main resources of the national cultural heritage
- To master the vocabulary and basic concepts in the field of cultural heritage
- To know techniques of inventory and classification of heritage in its various manifestations (material - mobile, immovable and integrated - and immaterial)

- To apply fundamental concepts of heritage in the development of educational projects

- To reflect on the current relevance of the patrimonial theme and the practices of conservation and safeguard of the Cultural Patrimony at national and international level.

Contents

- The study and research in Cultural Heritage: basic concepts, trends, balances and perspectives.
- The protection of patrimonial assets: the inventory and the classification of the singular objects and the built groups; the national and international legislation and the patrimonial protection.
- Cultural heritage in Portugal: origin, evolution and affirmation of the concept and its multidisciplinary potentialities.
- Educational action and heritage.
- The project methodology in education and heritage.
- Design of educational projects of heritage nature.

Teaching Methods

Sessions of a theoretical and practical nature will be organized in such a way as to favor students' participation in classes, through debate, informed criticism and reflective intervention. In these sessions will be approached the theoretical concepts of the curricular unit and analyzed texts and materials that allow the achievement of its objectives. Fieldwork hours will be organized in ten blocks of 3h distributed along the semester and will aim at both direct contact with heritage and the collection of elements for the design of educational projects of a heritage nature.

The evaluation of the curricular unit will consist of the design and presentation of an educational project aimed at the disclosure or preservation of assets (80%) and in the reporting of the activities developed in the field work sessions (20%).
