Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

Since this is essentially a discipline workup, which is the first approach to plant science, the discipline has
as main objective to provide the basics of plant diversity and organization, with special emphasis on the
binomial structure-function.
The characterization of Phyla (in its morphological aspects, anatomical, physiological, etc..) Would be
under a double perspective phylogenetic and adaptive.
It is intended that students throughout this unit:
1. Acquire minimum skills level of distinction of the main taxonomic groups covered, both from a
theoretical point, either in the application of this knowledge in identifying specimens;
2. Understand, in an integrated way, the role of the organisms in ecosystems and potential uses for
humans.

Contents

1. The evolution in the plant kingdom - Diversity and characteristics morfo-functional of major groups. Life
cycles and ecological and economic importance.
2. Monera: Cyanophyta - blue-green algae
3. Protists: Chlorophyta, Euglenophyta, Rhodophyta, Dinophyta, Bacillariophyta, Phaeophyta,
Chrysophyta, Xanthopyta, Myxomycota, Acrasiomycota and Oomycota.
4. Fungi: Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, Zygomycota, Deuteromycota and lichenes.
5. Colonization of Earth. Comparison between aquatic and terrestrial enviroments.
6. Antocerophyta, Hepatophyta and Bryophyta; General characteristics. Morpho-anatomical aspects.
Diversity and occurrence. Assexual and sexual reproduction. Importance in ecosystems.
7. Evolution of Tracheophyta. Fossil records.
8. Psilotophyta, Lycophyte, Sphenophyta and Pteridophyta: Characterization of the sporophyte and
gametophyte. Lifecycle. Filogenetic relationships. Ecology, distribution and economic and ecological
importance.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and classroom teaching practices. In the lectures will present the concepts, structure of matter such a transfer to the orientation of the learning process. The laboratory classes will be devoted to ob-servation, macro and microscopic, of the groups studied in the classroom in relation to morphological, reproductive and taxonomic. Performing will be guided tours for collection and observation of groups in their habitat.
1st Theoretical and Practical Evaluation, 2nd Theoretical and Practical Evaluation, Theoretical and Practical Exam, Theoretical and Practical Appeal Exam. Verification tests on 4 scientific articles.
The theoretical evaluations are priced at 20 points (40% of the final grade).
Pricing for practical assessments is 20 (40% of the final grade).
The final grade of the gauging tests corresponds to 20% of the final grade.
Final grade of the gauging tests = (1st test + 2nd test + 3rd test + 4th test)/4
Final grade = Theoretical grade + Practice grade + gauging tests
