Presentation

Grammar towards the new making the historical operation as a turning out point for the vision of history of secondary education, fostering a critical spirit to make transnational, comparative and global history. A set of active work issues that will cross the 1st cycle of education

Learning Goals

To learn to make history, fostering a critical and reflexive spirit, contributing to the progressive autonomy as a citizenship/historian. Introduction to historical discourse - historical research: sources, past, time and civilization context, providing students with a set of working tools that allow scientific access to the operation "making history" in different territories of specialization of History in the context of social sciences and human and in interdisciplinary domains with other areas of knowledge. Work instruments: archival research techniques in different documental supports, methodologies to be used with sources from various historical periods. Scientific work with SOURCES. Source subordination to: working hypothesis, state of the art, hypothesis verification: context of production of different types of sources, collection, systematization, analysis, with different types of methodologies; elaboration of the conclusion of the investigation carried out.

Contents

1. How history, social and human science was born; history of history; historiography schools, themes and different scientific methods.
2. History and interdisciplinary work. History in FCT's R&D units.
3. Research practices. Institutional Memory tripod: archives, libraries, museums.
4.The writing of history: territories and agendas; social and economic history; reborn political history; history of culture; history of science and technology; oral history; material history: heritage, art, museology. Applications to the territory of the University of Évora.
5. Organization of research work teams: practices, working rules and academic writing for the implementation of «history practices».
6. Results: presentation – oral/written; debate of ideas/results; vision for the future of research in history.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods focus on iteration between the teaching team and students on a weekly basis. There are lecture classes - with guests -, text commentary classes, individually and in teams, and weekly use of the moodle platform to allocate the weekly diary of the work carried out, as well as all the support material: compulsory and secondary readings. Visits are made to spaces for making history – archives, libraries, museums, public spaces – highlighting Évora / U. Évora. Time for individual tutoring or for work teams is made available weekly. Evaluation. Continuous assessment model: elaboration of two individual academic texts and two work reports (with an alternative to 1 frequency) (50%); a team work (40%) with individual exercise of applying the use of bibliographic referencing rules (10%).
