Learning Goals

OBJECTIVES:
Is intended that students acquire knowledge about the fundamentals and requirements of a Quality Management
Systems and Environment, understand the advantages and the critical factors of implementation and make contacts
with the evaluation process of such systems; and be able to develop the planning, control and quality assurance in
an organization, using the tools of quality improvement. Emphasis will also be a special emphasis on the standards
ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 and the methodology for solving problems in a structured way.

COMPETENCES:
- Ability to devise, plan and conduct quality processes and environment and comparison of results with the observed
facts;
- Ability to decision making and problem solving related to the implementation of a Quality Management System and
Environment;
- capacity handling, application and implementation of tools, methods, techniques and instruments of Quality
Management and the Environment

Module 1 - Quality Management:

Teaching Methods

Due to the eminently practical and instrumental value of materials, attention will turn to an operational approach based
on solving practical cases related to issues. A set of quality documents will be examined and a number of individual
and group-work will be conducted.
In order to establish greater contact and interaction with students (including the provision of course support
materials), teaching team will use the University of Évora e-learning platform (Moodle).
Students will be given two evaluation schemes:
Continuous evaluation: final grade will result from a weighted average of two individual works (with oral presentation)
and two individual test, considering the following weights: Individual works: 50%; individual test: 25%.
Examination evaluation: the final grade will result from a weighted average of individual work and the written exam,
considering the following weights: Individual work: 50%; Written Exam: 50%.
