Learning Goals
O1-To deepen knowledge of the program guidelines of mathematics in the middle and secondary levels of education
O2-To know fundamental aspects of teaching mathematical topics, as well as transversal mathematical processes and general skills
O3-To know mathematical tasks appropriate for the teaching of mathematics and be able to adapt / develop different types of tasks
O4-To know the potentialities of digital technologies as resources for the learning of maths and to be able to use them effectively in teaching
O5-To understand the relevance of the evaluation process in improving teaching and learning processes
O6-To know models of mathematics teaching and develop the ability to perspective its implications for the learning of mathematics by the students
O7-To develop the ability to discuss challenges of mathematics teaching in the middle and secondary levels of education and to value research as a resource for professional development

Teaching Methods
This curricular unit envisages the use of methodologies that appeal to student involvement, without which it will not be possible to meet the objectives it sets. The quality of the work to be done depends above all on the involvement and intervention of the students in the proposed activities, particularly during lessons. Therefore, students will be continually asked to participate by carrying out various tasks. These tasks may or may not involve prior preparation (e.g. reading a text, collecting data, solving a problem, building a piece of material, etc.), will be varied in nature (analysis, discussion, criticism, production, etc.), and will include different forms of work (individual work, small groups, in the large class).

	  Assessment
Assessment in this curricular unit follows the general rules in force at the University of Évora, as stipulated in the RA - Academic Regulations (Order No. 7/2019).
As this curricular unit is theoretical-practical in nature, it is compulsory for students to attend at least 75% of classes (RA, article 97, point 1.).
The student-worker must (RA, article 38, point 5.) contact the teacher of the curricular unit within fifteen days of obtaining this condition, in order to inform them of it at the risk of the special attendance and assessment regime not being applied (RA, article 38, point 2.).
Students can opt for the continuous assessment regime or the final exam assessment regime (RA, article 102, point 10), the former being the most appropriate given the nature of the curricular unit (RA, article 102, point 13).
Continuous Assessment System
This system aims to promote a formative assessment approach throughout the semester and will naturally include various elements collected at different times and focusing on the different topics covered in the course.
Assessment elements will include
P - Attendance and punctuality (10%)
TG - Group work (includes written report and oral presentation and discussion in class) (30%)
TA - Small tasks carried out in (20%)
RC - Final written essay (40%)
To obtain the final grade, the different components will be weighted according to the formula:
NF= (10xP + 30xTG + 20xTA + 40xRC)/100
Final Assessment System (Exam)
Students who have opted for this method or who, having opted for the continuous assessment system, have not obtained a mark higher than 10 in the tests designated as A, B or C in the continuous assessment system may take the exam. The exam involves a written test which covers all the syllabus content and a practical test which involves solving practical tasks (as stipulated in the AR, article 102, point 6). In this case, the grade for the course will coincide with the arithmetic mean obtained in the two tests, the written and the practical.
