PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Sporting and cultural activities are two of the best ways to come together and develop a sense of belonging. This type of event is even more necessary when it comes to students from vulnerable cultural, economic and social backgrounds. In this context, EUGreen's WP7 (Access, Diversity and Inclusion) has decided to launch a photo competition, to be held at each of the universities in this European Consortium.

Competition theme: Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education .

A maximum of 3 photographs can be submitted per author.

Photographs will be judged individually, and series entries will not be allowed.

Dates:

Submission of applications: from  November 18, 2024 to January 15, 2025
Analysis of applications: from  January 16, 2025 to February 12 2025
Communication of results: until  January 20, 2025

Participants:

The entire academic community (students, teaching and non-teaching staff, researchers) of the University of Évora can take part in this photo competition. A maximum of 3 photographs per author can be submitted. Participants are fully responsible for any infringement of third-party rights in their submissions, as well as for any image rights claims.

Characteristics of the photographs:

  • The photographs must respect the proposed theme, be original and unpublished and not have been awarded or exhibited in another competition;
  • They can be in color or black and white, with free technique. However, the participant must be the author of all the elements included in the image;
  • They must be delivered in digital JPG format;
  • The size of the closed file must not exceed 5 Megabytes;
  • The dimensions must be 30 x 40 cm;
  • 300 dpi resolution;
  • Only photographs with good resolution will be eligible for the first three prizes, as low-resolution images are not suitable for printing; photographs must not have a signature or watermark.

NOTE: In addition to the photograph, candidates must also submit a Descriptive Memory  that includes a description of the photograph, a biographical note and a photo of the candidate.

Prizes:

First Prize: Diploma and large format print of the photograph, photography workshop run by Professor João Carlos de Bettencourt Bacelar. The student with the best score will be offered a short-term internship at the University of Angers (France);

Second prize: Diploma and print of a medium format photograph, photography workshop run by Professor João Carlos de Bettencourt Bacelar;

Third prize: Diploma and small format print, photography workshop run by Professor João Carlos de Bettencourt Bacelar;

The competition jury may award honorable mentions in the event of high quality entries

The winning photograph will be submitted to EUGreen's global competition, where it will compete with the winning photographs from the other universities in the Alliance.

Exibition:

The photographs will be published on the web, in open access, after the competition deadline has elapsed.

Traveling expositions will be held at UÉvora venues, and the possibility of exhibitions in the surrounding community may also be explored.

The winning and selected participants will receive notification by email and/or telephone.

The list of winners will be published in UÉ CULTURA, the University of Évora's cultural agenda.
