Learning Goals

Objectives:
To know the realities and resources of the different environments that support the mentally ill in Portugal.
Identify the impacts of existential suffering on different living dynamics.
Understand what dysfunctional ways of life are and how to react to them.
Learn forms of intervention to support caregivers of patients with mental illness.
Skills:
Demonstrate critical analysis skills on the observed experiences, digitally running in the classroom;
Demonstrate the ability to record in text what you thought, felt and what intervention you suggested, to support the people you saw.

Contents

Support resources for the mentally ill in Portugal
Social inclusion and therapeutic workshops with utility / uselessness
The rights of people with mental illness
Closed and open hospital environments: advantages and disadvantages
Stigma and fear
The impacts of the living dynamics of people with mental illness:
- In the patient himself;
- in the family;
- in the brothers;
- in couple life;
- caregivers;
- in the urban environment;
- in the work environment;
- in society in general;
- associated diseases;
Therapeutic communication and help techniques

Teaching Methods

In line with the objectives, teaching methodologies planned techniques are informative and expository framed in scientific-technical field and interactive strategies conducive to student participation and reflection. In addition to the oral presentation made by the teacher are used slides, films and simulated clinical cases.
They are also encouraged to conduct research and bibliographic databases, in particular EBSCO for the analysis of clinical situations worked in practical classes.

Assessment

According to the Academic Regulations of the University of Évora, students may choose between continuous assessment or final examination. Continuous assessment is encouraged and consists of:
-A Written Test, covering the entire syllabus taught and accounting for 60% of the final grade.
-A Written Assignment, prepared in groups and accounting for 40% of the final grade.
Note: The Written Assignment must include the analysis of at least 4 topics covered in class, guided by a reflection on the implications of the contents for the professional practice of Psychomotor Rehabilitation and for the quality of care. It must be submitted by the last day of classes of the course unit.
Assessment by examination: this will consist of a written exam covering the entire syllabus taught and accounting for 100% of the final grade.
To pass the course unit, students must achieve a minimum grade of 9.5 out of 20 in each of the assessment components.
