Course Overview

The PhD in Tourism general objective is to offer specialized training in Tourism, providing doctoral candidates with the tools required both for a career in scientific research and teaching, as well as for performing high-level functions in private, public, and third-sector organizations. In this learning journey, students have the opportunity to engage with ongoing projects at different research centres (particularly CIDEHUS), Chairs, and within the scope of ASTO - Alentejo Sustainable Tourism Observatory, part of the international INSTO network of the UNWTO. Additionally, students will be able to integrate, contact, and participate in dynamics and projects developed in collaboration with companies or other organizations, expanding their experience and enhancing their connection to the professional market.

Specific Entry Requirements

The PhD Programme in Tourism is primarily intended for graduates and master?s degree holders in tourism or in social sciences and humanities fields, from Portuguese or foreign higher education institutions. Admission to this PhD requires a master?s degree or legally equivalent qualification in Tourism or related fields and/or other areas, duly recognised by the Scientific Committee of this PhD Programme, completed with a final grade equal to or higher than 14 (on a 0-20 scale). Candidates who have completed the curricular component of their master?s degree with a grade equal to or higher than 14 (on a 0-20 scale), and whose award of the master?s degree is pending only public defence (provided this does not lower the overall grade average and occurs by the first day of classes in the academic year for which they are applying) may also be considered. Failure to attend the selection interview will result in the candidate?s exclusion.
