CHANGE's mission is to identify and develop scientifically sound public policy and governance solutions aimed at promoting an environmentally responsible, resource-efficient, and competitive economy in a context marked by global change. Its work is based on the production of robust scientific knowledge and the promotion of research and innovation that support the adaptation of public policies and the definition of new governance strategies, contributing to a resilient economy that is compatible with environmental protection and the sustainability of socioeconomic systems.
CHANGE's vision is to establish itself as a leading Research and Development center in the development, evaluation, and implementation of innovative public policies with relevance and impact in the areas of Global Change and Sustainability. Within this framework, CHANGE promotes scientific research aimed at informing the design of evidence-based public policies, also contributing to the scientific evaluation of the implementation of national scientific policy in the environmental, agricultural, economic, and social fields, from an integrative and systemic perspective of sustainability.

IN2PAST – the Associated Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory – is a scientific consortium of excellence dedicated to the research, preservation, study and promotion of cultural heritage in its multiple dimensions, including tangible and intangible heritage, as well as arts, sustainability and territory. Founded in 2021 and certified by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), IN2PAST integrates seven research units from leading Portuguese academic institutions, establishing intensive collaboration between theoretical, empirical and laboratory research, public policies and a broad network of cultural and heritage entities.
IN2PAST's vision focuses on consolidating itself as a leading national and international associated laboratory in the study and valorization of cultural heritage and the arts, assuming a strategic role in the production of knowledge that informs innovative practices of safeguarding, interpretation and cultural promotion. Its activities are organized around thematic lines encompassing areas such as science and technology applied to heritage, landscapes and territory, museums and collections, archives, and public policies on memory and inclusive citizenship, reinforcing its capacity to respond to the complex demands of contemporary cultural and social contexts.
IN2PAST distinguishes itself through its interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, bringing together highly specialized researchers and human resources, with an impact in the fields of history, archaeology, arts, natural sciences, and humanities. This dynamic allows for the generation of scientific knowledge of high academic and social value, while simultaneously establishing sustained partnerships with cultural institutions, services, and facilities, such as monuments, museums, archives, and archaeological sites. The work of the associated laboratory thus contributes to the cultural development of territories and communities, influencing public policies and practices of heritage conservation and valorization in Portugal and internationally.

UÉvora intervention: Leading institution through HERCULES

The LAQV-REQUIMTE – Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry of the Chemistry and Technology Network – is a research unit of recognized international excellence, establishing itself as the main Portuguese center dedicated to Sustainable Chemistry. Its mission focuses on the production of high-impact scientific knowledge, the advanced training of highly qualified human resources, and the promotion of technology transfer, contributing decisively to the sustainable development of society. Created in 1996 by researchers from NOVA University Lisbon and the University of Porto, LAQV-REQUIMTE has progressively expanded from the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto, currently integrating research centers and teams in various regions of the country.
Currently, LAQV-REQUIMTE brings together researchers from the University of Aveiro, the University of Coimbra, the University of Évora, and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, involving approximately one thousand researchers, of whom about half hold doctoral degrees. Its scientific activity is organized into six thematic lines, supported by ten research groups, covering areas such as chemical synthesis, catalysis, food science and technology, natural products, analytical methods, process intensification and clean technologies, alternative solvents, smart materials, and chemical process engineering.
Researchers at the Évora Chemistry Centre (CQE) are part of LAQV-REQUIMTE, actively participating in the Materials for Sustainability and Well-being, Molecular Synthesis, Chemistry and Environment, and Chemical Process Engineering groups, developing research in surface and materials chemistry, organic and organometallic synthesis, as well as in physical, theoretical, and computational chemistry. LAQV-REQUIMTE's vision is of a world where Sustainable Chemistry asserts itself as a dynamic and transformative tool to address contemporary social, economic, and environmental challenges, promoting innovative scientific solutions for policymakers, industry, and society in general.

UÉvora Intervention: Partner through REQUIMTE

The Aquatic Research Network (ARNET) is an Associated Laboratory of the National Science and Technology System, operating within a context of global change and anthropogenic pressures. With expertise in biological and environmental sciences, it applies methodological approaches oriented towards different aquatic systems, from river basins to open and deep-sea ecosystems.
It is a multi-institutional network with a wide geographical distribution in Portugal, composed of more than 700 researchers from three multidisciplinary R&D units: MARE – Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences, the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA), and the Centre for Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA).

UÉvora  Intervention: Partner through MARE

The Associated Lab REAL is a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional, and highly collaborative associated laboratory whose objective is to promote the advancement of translational science and medicine, adopting a bench-to-bedside approach. Its mission focuses on the discovery and development of new diagnostic tools and treatments, as well as ensuring that proven strategies for the treatment and prevention of diseases are effectively implemented in the community.
REAL's main strategic objective is to encourage and strengthen research and development (R&D) activities, involving national and international strategic partners, in order to increase its impact on global health. It aims to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and the needs of the population through investment in public policy formulation efforts and collaboration with national and international health authorities, ensuring the effective implementation of developed solutions.
REAL constitutes an organized structure that enhances the scientific dynamism of its research units, incorporating principles of translationality, collaboration, and innovation. The associated laboratory includes researchers and institutions from NOVA University of Lisbon, the University of Évora, the University of Coimbra, and the University of Lisbon - Faculty of Dental Medicine.
