Presentation
Minimum theoretical-practical bases for the implementation of disease prevention practices on farm animals, with special emphasis on the prevention of zoonosis.

Contents
Concepts of epidemiology. Principles of hygiene. Biological and epidemiological characterization of the main nosological agents. Methods of prevention of infectious diseases and parasitic diseases. Applicable legislation.
Teaching Methods
The subjects will be presented in lectures and then discussed in both theoretical and practical lessons, in which revise projection of slides and films about the issues addressed, followed by a debate about nuclear issues.
In the laboratory practical classes, students perform sample collection and diagnostic analysis.
During the second part of the semester, groups of 3 or 4 students will develop independent projects on the management of extensive and intensive animal farming, aiming to minimize the occurrence of diseases. This work will be subject to oral evaluation.

Assessment
Evaluation with a written test and a final exam for continuous evaluation.
With this form of evaluation, students who choose to make the intermediate test will have less subjects under evaluation in the final exam. And may also choose to be evaluated on all subjects in final exam.
For final exame is need to perform a written test.
The final grade is the result of theoretical evaluation (80%) and evaluation of group work (from 3 to 4 students) with oral presentation (20%).
If deemed necessary to verify the extent to which the student has developed the knowledge and skills expected for the course unit and/or if the final grade is equal to or greater than 16 (sixteen) points, the teaching team may summon the student for an oral examination, in accordance with paragraph 13 of Article 110 of the Academic Regulations of the University of Évora, ensuring the conditions stipulated in paragraph 4 of Article 116 and paragraph 1 of Article 118 of the same Regulations. The oral examination will have the same weighting as the theoretical component defined for the course unit, i.e., 50% of the final grade.
The misuse of AI will be considered academic fraud under Article 119 of the Academic Regulations (Code of Conduct, Fraud and Plagiarism). For further information and full consultation of the usage policy, please refer to UÉ Order No. 34/2026.
