Assessment, Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Conditions
Curso de Formação
Ano Letivo 2025/2026
Course Overview
According to the Portuguese Society of Diabetology and the National Diabetes Observatory, this chronic disease continues to increase in Portugal, with the estimated prevalence of diabetes in 2021 in the Portuguese population aged between 20 and 79 (7.7 million individuals) being 13.6 per cent, i.e. more than 1 million Portuguese in this age group have diabetes. Diabetic foot is one of the most serious complications of diabetes, often associated with micro and macrovascular complications. Atherosclerotic peripheral artery disease of the lower limbs leads to peripheral ischaemia with great tissue fragility, which can lead to chronic foot ulcers and where the onset of serious infection in the context of neuropathy and ischaemia can lead to eventual amputation of the lower limb. This training course aims to contribute to the development of technical-scientific competences of health professionals (nurses and doctors) using experts in the field, who will provide recommendations for assessment and therapeutic approaches in people with diabetic foot, based on the latest scientific evidence.
