Applied Animal Science

Bachelor's Degree

Ano Letivo 2026/2027

Course Overview

The Bachelor?s degree program in Animal Science and Technology provides foundational higher education in the field of animal science as applied to the breeding, use, care, and management of animals and animal populations (with a focus on mammals, birds, and fish). In addition, it offers short-term extracurricular internships (3 to 4 weeks per semester during the 2nd and 3rd years of the program) and requires the completion of a business-based internship (2 months, at the end of the 6th semester).
Thus, this program is based on a curriculum with two tracks: one with a theoretical scientific foundation and the other with a practical business foundation, which prepares students for the needs of economic and recreational activities related to animal husbandry and related activities in the fields of science, technology, and food safety of animal origin.
The theoretical scientific foundation is required of all students. The practical business component offers complementary flexibility in areas of professional interest to the student, including the final course unit called Business Context Internship, whose objectives involve the student's contact with the business environment to relate the knowledge acquired throughout the study plan to the specific aspects of the company/association/institution. In short, the aim is to complement academic training with learning/experience in external entities, through internships aligned with the students' interests.
The study plan aims to enable the student to understand (i) the growth and development of animals of zootechnical, companion, sport and leisure interest, (ii) the functioning, behavior and animal welfare and (iii) the functioning of companies and animal production/use systems and the principles of their organization and management in an integrated and environmentally sustainable way. The training offered provides a solid education in (1) science, (2) animal production management and (3) agribusiness.
