Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
Objectives:
- Know the principles of the scientific method, the ethical principles inherent in carrying out research, the different types of research and types of studies, and the stages of the research process.
- Know the procedures for building databases and master the use of different techniques for analyzing data statistically to create new knowledge in scientific research.
- Know the rules and forms for preparing scientific documents: dissertation and scientific article.
Competences to be developed:
- Students should have the ability to draw up a research project.
- Carry out a small scientific investigation using the correct methodology, from its conception, through recruiting a sample, applying one or more assessment instruments, creating a database, carrying out statistical analysis of the data, discussion and conclusions.
- Prepare a scientific document, such as a scientific poster, on the research carried out.

Teaching Methods
We advocate teaching centred on student learning and learning centred on the development of competences. Thus, after a general approach, through the presentation of concepts at a theoretical level, students will carry out a small research project, applying this theoretical knowledge. Next, they will carry out a small scientific investigation, where they will develop skills that are transversal to other CUs, such as the application of assessment instruments and protocols to collect data in a real situation with the community during physical activity week. The use of digital resources as tools to promote learning will be important in order to create a database using SPSS software and then analyze it in or in independent work. Digital resources will also be used to manage communication through the Moodle platform, which is used to organize and make available materials relating to the teaching and learning process.
Assessment
The students, divided into groups, will prepare a scientific poster (50% of the grade), with data collected during this course, which should be presented publicly to classmates at the end of the semester for discussion (50% of the grade). Assessment will be centered on the self-regulation of students' learning, where they will receive feedback on their performance at different times throughout the lessons, developing their capacity for self-regulation and autonomous learning to improve their work.
Passing the course requires a final mark of 10 or more on the proposed tasks, on a scale of 0-20. Assessment on appeal follows the same principles as assessment by examination.
