Learning Goals

This Course Unit prepares the Master's in Design project research, with a focus on Editorial Design, Product Design or Interaction Design, in the modalities: Project Work; Dissertation; Internship Report.

Learning objectives promote the development of exploration, conceptualization and critical reflection skills, through informed and inspired design strategies and itineraries.

The knowledge, skills and competences develop at a high level of complexity and apply to the integrated Research and Development processes in Design.

a. Being able to find a Design opportunity and a research context;
b. Know how to organize a synthesis document that sets up a research proposal in Design compatible with the study cycle in which it is registered;
ç. Know how to summon and discuss the critical apparatus suitable for argumentation;
d. Know how to communicate in all discursive dimensions;
e. Be ethically committed;
f. Seek to Be Innovation.

Contents

The programmatic contents of this Course Unit are the theoretical support for the elaboration of the Research Project Proposal and its development.

1. Perspectives for Design:
Participated speculation about visions of the future;
2. Research and Development Universes in Design:
Visions; Strategies; Itineraries; Law Suit; Methods; Instruments.
3. The Scientific Work and the Research Project Proposal:
Title, Abstract; Key words; Index; Introduction (Issues, Research Questions, Objectives); Theoretical Framework / State of the Art; Hypothesis / Argument; Forecast Calendar; References; Bibliography.
4. Variety and Complexity:
Inspirational references; Design Culture;
5. Experiences and Experimentation in Design:
Conferences, seminars, workshops and assistance to Final Examination in Design (Viva Voce).

Teaching Methods

Lectures, debate, individual tutorial monitoring, discussion raised by the status of individual research projects developed by students, exploration and simulation of cases, viewing and debating videos and films, solving concrete problems, viewing other relevant iconographic material and classes in context.

Rating criteria:
1. Originality and opportunity of the theme; contextualization and discussion capacity supported by literature review (and / or other methods) (20%);
2. Design of the Design Process / research methods; research questions, objectives (20%);
3. Adequacy, in extension and understanding, of the work produced until each moment of evaluation (20%);
4. Rationale, argumentation, conceptualization and development (20%);
5. Global quality; potential to Be Innovation (20%).
