Presentation

It intends to provide knowledge of air pollution and noise with a strong practical component, including noise measurements and study visit to an Air Quality Measurement Station.

Learning Goals

Give an applied scientific knowledge to the control and treatment of gaseous emissions using various
technologies. Give scientific knowledge of noise and its monitoring.

Air pollution. Main pollutants. Effects. Outdoor and indoor air pollution. Emission control of the major
atmospheric pollutants. Particulates emission control. Gases and particulate control devices.
Basic concepts of sound and noise. Sound-pressure level (SPL). Decibel. Frequency. Infra-sound and ultrasound.
Characteristics sources of noise. Noise monitoring. Legislation.

Teaching Methods

Fundaments and concepts will be transmitted, and complemented with seminars. Practical classes consist in 1
practical lab, 1 field work and 2 visits to places of interest for this unit.
Theoretical (50% Final Note): Tests or Exams
Practical (50% Final Note): Group reports of 3 practical lab and field work
Final examination: one sole proof on all the lectured matter that scores 100%
