The course aims to equip students with the ability to recognize and interpret the main atmospheric circulation systems, from planetary to local scales, with emphasis on their impacts on aircraft operations during critical phases of flight such as take-off and landing. It also seeks to assess the role of winds in different atmospheric layers linking these dynamics to safe and comfortable flight conditions. Students will acquire knowledge about meteorological phenomena associated with wind, such as sea breezes, downbursts, jet streams, orographic waves, and mountain winds. The course also addresses the effects of climate change on wind patterns and their implications for the safety and efficiency of air transportation. Additionally, it promotes transversal skills such as teamwork, scientific communication, and the ability to solve complex problems.
Micro-credential proposed under WP6 ?Training and capacity building of resources? of the New Space Portugal project (Ref. C644936537-00000046, Notice ACC02/CO5-i01/2022), financed by the Mobilizing Agendas for Business Innovation, through the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR).
