Atmospheric environmental events can have significant impacts on aircraft and may affect flight conditions. Understanding the effects of rain, snow, wind and ambient temperature, lightning and icing on aircraft is critical to designing, engineering and manufacturing quality aerospace components that can perform as intended under rapidly changing weather conditions. As well as weather conditions, extreme events such as thunderstorms, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, desert dust and smoke from wildfires can also affect aircraft performance. Therefore, all relevant conditions must be considered when designing a component so that it can withstand all environmental conditions to which the aircraft will be subjected.
