University of Évora fills 95% of places in 1st phase of CNA
There are 1,290 new students placed at the University of Évora (UÉ) through the National Access Competition (CNA) 2023/24, which means that 95% of the places were filled in the first phase, thus maintaining the upward trend of recent years. UÉ was chosen as the first choice by 98% of the students placed.
This academic year UÉ offered 1,357 places, spread over 40 Bachelor's and Integrated Master's degree courses. In the last three years, the number of students placed in the first phase at the University of Évora has been increasing, corresponding to a cumulative growth of 30% compared to 2020/2021.
"The University of Évora is to be congratulated," says Hermínia Vasconcelos Vilar, Rector of the UÉ, stressing that "with an expanded training offer, with two new degrees, and a higher number of places than in the previous academic year, the University of Évora stands out, not only for maintaining a placement rate of 95%, but also for the fact that it was one of the few universities that increased the number of students placed in the 1st phase, in a context of a 4% decrease in the number of applicants to higher education."
In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the University Institute of Évora, which allowed the University of Évora to resurface in the mid-1970s, the rector of the Alentejo academy, assures that " these results demonstrate the dynamism of the institution, which attracts thousands of young people every year from practically every district of mainland Portugal and the islands and from various parts of the world, with more than 70 different nationalities represented in the student community. It is, in fact, a unique training environment that offers students an enriching cultural experience at a university that is proud of its history, but above all concerned about the future and the training of new generations."
The growing demand for the University of Évora also proves "the recognition of this institution, which stands for the quality of its teaching in all training cycles, where the recent investment in the area of Health, affirmed this academic year with the Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, along with the continuous investment in the consolidation of other areas with installed and recognized competences, converge in a consistent strategy in terms of training, which keeps pace with the unavoidable changes of today".
For Hermínia Vasconcelos Vilar, "the Alentejo is a region of the future" as it has "strategic potential that can greatly enhance the country in an economy based on sustainable development and territorial cohesion, and where the University of Évora is a protagonist in this transformation, respecting and valuing the history and vast material and immaterial heritage that give this region a distinctive identity and authenticity at international level".
The remaining vacancies at the University of Évora will be up for competition in the 2nd phase of the CNA, which runs from August 28th to September 5th.
