Practical Philosophy - Politics, Citizenship and the Environment

Master Degree

Ano Letivo 2025/2026

Course Overview

The Master degree in Practical Philosophy takes as its articulating node the contemporary relations between Politics, Citizenship and the Environment, in order to propose a philosophical response to pressing societal and cultural challenges, both on a global and local scale. Seeking a strong philosophical foundation, it endeavours to open up to other areas, such as History, Literature and Art, Legal-Political Theory and Economics, Landscape Architecture and Environmental Sciences, in an attempt to take into account the complexity and diversity of perspectives and modes of action. It favours face-to-face teaching methods, using online methodologies and resources, and integrates e-learning disciplinary units.  The Philosophy Department, which is responsible for the course, has collaboration protocols under ERASMUS with foreign universities, namely Belgium (Liège), Spain (Murcia), Italy (Padova), Poland (Warsaw), Hungary (Szegedi), the Czech Republic (Hradec Kralove and Palachého v Olomouci) and Brazil (São Paulo).
