Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: An Introductory Approach for Professionals

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made significant advancements in the healthcare sector, establishing itself as an essential tool for service management and clinical decision support. According to European Regulation 2024/1689, an AI system is defined as a machine-based system designed with varying levels of autonomy and adaptability after implementation, producing outputs such as predictions and recommendations to support?not replace?human judgment. The application of this technology includes automating administrative tasks, advanced clinical documentation, and decision support, contributing to improved care quality. Practical implementation in healthcare is estimated to reduce 10-30% of the administrative worload for professionals, freeing up more time for direct patient care (OECD, 2024). However, its implementation presents challenges, including interoperability with existing systems, data quality, and trust from both professionals and patients (Ferede, 2025; Sablone et al., 2024). These factors are crucial to ensuring AI?s benefits are realized in a safe, efficient, and ethical manner (Dicuonzo et al., 2023). This course aims to: The aim of this course is to take healthcare professionals through a practical approach with an introductory presentation of ethical and regulatory aspects, presenting practical examples and exploring various tools for participants to apply.
