Learning Goals
The general aim of this course is for students to be proficient users of the Portuguese language, with a focus on its application in educational intervention. As to terms of specific sub-competencies to be acquired, students should be able to:
- Recognise and explain phonetic-phonological, morphological, syntactic and semantic-lexical characteristics of standard European Portuguese.
- Master linguistic analysis tools for checking and correcting writing, speaking and reading.
- Acquire metalinguistic competence to regulate linguistic productions (written, oral and reading).
- Understand the phenomena of geographical and socio-cultural varieties present in modern Portuguese language.
- Take on work commitments, interacting in cooperative teamwork and developing reflection and self-study skills.
- To know about the guiding documents, syllabi and programs for Portuguese learning and teaching.

Teaching Methods
Theoretical-practical sessions will take the following format: dialogue-based presentation of the content; analysis of small corpora and bibliographic consultations; exercises in (training exercises) and at home; didactic activities (for example, oral presentations by students) to monitor acquired knowledge.
Tutorial sessions are aimed at helping students with specific needs and preparing individual work.

Assessment
Assessment is governed by the "Regulamento Académico da UÉ, 2022/23 (artº 110º), which stipulates the following two formats: continuous and final.
Continuous assessment is preferred, as it includes students' active participation in classwork and/or homework (individual or in group). This continuous assessment is based on the following elements: (i) two individual written tests (40% each); (ii) relevant participation in and carrying out practical exercises in and at home (20%).
Assessment by final exam: one exam (100%), covering the whole subject. Only students with a mark of 10 or more are approved.
