Summary
The abandoned mines wastes are a focus of pollution because it holds toxic elements. In Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB), the problem take up special importance, therefore the ores, almost only sulphides, are exceptionally unstable at the conditions of earth surface. Initiating a quickly sequence of reactions that lead to the production of extremely acid fluids (acid waters) and to the release of pollutant elements, e.g. Cu, Pb, Sb, Bi, Hg, Cd and Se.
Secondary minerals that store pollutant elements control the chemical dynamics of these elements. The minerals are over all oxyhydroxysulphates and iron hydroxides produced during the processes of sulphide weathering or by precipitation, from acid fluids.
These secondary minerals are the study focus of this project, with the following basic purposes:
1.To identify storing minerals of main above mentioned metals pollutant.
2.To interpret the mechanisms of pollutant elements storing.
