Summary
The role of agriculture has been changed in many rural areas of Europe, especially in more remote areas, where production is no longer feasible or is threatened in the current market, but where the landscape is nevertheless valued by society through other functions. The agriculture is no longer the most important sector as a support to the rural economy, but nevertheless may be the rural economy, to provide the basis for supporting the agricultural sector. In this new paradigm, there is a need to understand and assess how the roles of the cultural and leisure functions depend on the farming management . The aim is to understand what are the expectations of the users related with these non-commodity functions, in relation to the rural landscape, and what are the land cover patterns they prefer for their activity.Another goal is to assess what is the role of farming for the performance of these functions, and what may be synergies and conflicts for the future.s for the future.
