Summary
The Natural Park of São Mamede Mountain (NPSMM), the only Park in the north of Alentejo, was created with the aim of ensuring the Conservation of Nature. Its geographic, orographic and climatic particularities allowed the establishment of singular floristic, faunal and mycobiotic communities, almost unique in the south of Portugal.
As one of the general objectives of the NPSMM's Planning Plan, “framing recreational and tourism activities with the goal to promote economic development and the well-being of populations”, it is urgent that the existing information on the habitats and biodiversity of the NPSMM be attractively publicized, promoting ecotourism in the region and consequently the volume of stays and meals, thus contributing to encourage the local and regional economy. This project would strengthen the environmental literacy of the region's resident and visiting populations, contributing to the increase in everyone's ecological awareness.
Goals, activities and expected/achieved results
Promover os valores naturais e patrimoniais da área do Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede.Produção de 4 guias temáticos (Flora, Fauna, Micobiota e Geodiversidade - Património Arqueológico) sobre o Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede (PNSSM), divulgando a riqueza biológica, geológica e arqueológica da região. Em cada guia serão elencados, ilustrados e descritos os taxa mais representativos de cada grupo biológico/ aspectos geológicos/ ocupação humana presentes na área do PNSSM. Foi compilada a informação textual e ilustrativa que permitisse descrever os seres vivos por habitat ou os locais geológicos ou arqueológicos interessantes a visitar, a sua localização na área do PNSSM, o seu estatuto de conservação ou importância em termos patrimoniais. Essa informação base (compilada por colaboradores de diversas áreas do saber) foi trabalhada para permitir a construção de guias com uma linha condutora entre si; os textos foram traduzidos para inglês, as imagens trabalhadas para corresponderem à formatação desejada. Para ilustar aspectos microscópicos da biologia e geologia foram executados trabalhos que permitiram a aquisição de imagens digitais originais. Foram ainda propostos percursos de visita dentro da área do PNSSM. O resultado será a impressão da informação trabalhada na forma de 4 guias.
