Learning Goals
The objectives of the course are to develop in the student the following skills in the areas of companion animals, horses, production and exotic animals, by knowing how to:
- correctly collect samples of tissues, cells and physiological liquids;
- ship properly the samples for different laboratorial procedures;
- complete requests for laboratory tests and other complementary diagnostic tests;
- know the samples processing before and after shipping
- perform the techniques of laboratory diagnostic means, and interpret the results;

Contents
Tutored on-site accompanying of laboratory technical activities of clinical analysis, histopathology and pathological anatomy, microbiology and parasitology in the areas of companion animals, horses, production and exotic animals.
Tutored face-to-face accompanying of clinical procedures where samples are collected for laboratory analysis, according to standardized and biosafety procedures.

Teaching Methods
Each student will perform shifts of two or three consecutive hours, in a total of 5 hours in four of the five hospital service laboratories - pathology, pathological anatomy, microbiology and parasitology -, and 4 hours in the reproduction laboratory, each semester. The activities will be recorded and validated on a registry sheet which will act as a Logbook.
Over the course of this unit, in addition to an initial briefing on how the course unit operates, two seminars will be held: i) one at the beginning of the first semester, aimed at informing students about the structure and routine of each laboratory, and ii) another at the end of the year, dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the reports and videos produced by the students.
In the context of this course unit must be guided by ethical, pedagogical, and scientific principles. AI use is permitted only for research papers, reports, or projects, specifically for tasks such as research support and document organization (e.g., identifying sources, structuring bibliographies), linguistic and stylistic assistance (e.g., grammar correction, improving the flow of the original text), analytical and brainstorming support (e.g., generating ideas for structure), and assistance in creating presentations based on previously produced content.
In this course unit, the use of AI is prohibited for the complete generation of answers or assignments, the automatic solution of assessed exercises or problems, the production of texts intended for submission as original work, and the drafting of reports without human intervention.

Assessment
The evaluation is continuous, focusing on each student?s competencies as demonstrated through the execution of procedures in the semester?s laboratory sessions; one of these procedures will be selected for a group activity involving the production of a report and a video. Both the report and the video will be subject to an oral presentation and discussion at the end of the second semester. The final grade is calculated based on the following weighting: Individual Performance Assessment (50%) + Report and video (20%) + Presentation and discussion (30%). Students pass the UC with a minimum grade
of 10 points.
The skills to be developed by the student in this course cannot be assessed through the final assessment system. Therefore, in accordance with nº 10, article 110º of RAUE, this course does not have a final assessment, special and extraordinary examination periods and the completion of the final assessment under the special assessment
regimes impossible.
In this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is permitted for research, reports, or projects in tasks such as research support and document organization (e.g., identifying sources, structuring bibliographies), linguistic and stylistic support (e.g., grammar correction, improving text flow), analytical and brainstorming support (e.g., generating structural ideas), and assistance in creating presentations based on previously produced content. However, the use of AI is prohibited for the complete generation of answers or assignments, the automatic solution of graded exercises or problems, the production of texts intended for submission as original work, and the drafting of reports without human intervention.
If deemed necessary to verify the extent to which the student has developed the knowledge and skills required for the course unit, the teaching team may summon the student for an oral examination, in accordance with nº 13, article 110º of Regulamento Académico da Universidade de Évora, ensuring the conditions set out in paragraph nº 4, article 116º, and in nº 1, article 118º of the same Regulations. The grade will be that
of the oral examination.
