Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

The objective of the curricular unit is to deepen and systematize the knowledge acquired by the student in the curricular units of the previous semesters, through the exploration and experimental application of this knowledge to a concept product design.
- To develop the student's ability to design innovation scenarios for the future, based on the interpretation of present knowledge evolution phenomena (at the level of social, technological, cultural, etc. factors);
- To develop the student's skills and competences at the level of his / her autonomy in the exploration and application of methodological processes of design based on innovation presuppositions;
- Contribute to the deepening of student interest in research.

Contents

1. Delimitation of concepts: phenomenon, trend and innovation. Its relation in design.
2. Case study analysis: historical phenomena that promote new trends and innovation processes in design.
3. Fiction versus Conceptualization.
4. The importance of substantiate in the creation of scenarios.
5. Exploration of new concepts through the projection of evolutionary scenarios of phenomena.
6. Systematization and reporting of results.

Teaching Methods

The course articulates critical analysis, applied research, experimentation, and project development as an approach to knowledge production and integration through design. Discussion of theoretical frameworks and case studies promotes understanding of the topics covered. Design activities and systemic analysis support the identification of challenges and opportunities. The development of project proposals promotes the integration of acquired knowledge. Moments of collective discussion and critique stimulate reflection and the justification of decisions. Interaction with specialists and partners fosters collaborative and transdisciplinary approaches. Autonomous study and critical reflection reinforce continuous learning.

Assessment

The assessment is continuous, requiring a minimum attendance of 75%. The remaining periods (Resit, Special, and Extraordinary) are subject to a mandatory Final Assessment.

Continuous Assessment:
Attendance and participation in classes ? 20%;
Work developed throughout the semester, supervised by the professor and submitted to at least one periodic evaluation ? 40%;
Presentation and defense of the project before a jury ? 40%.
The final grade results from the sum of the assessment components.

Final Assessment:
Work developed throughout the semester ? 40%;
Written assessment test on the course content ? 60%.
The final grade results from the sum of the two assessment components.

If deemed necessary to verify the extent to which the student has developed the knowledge and skills required for the course unit, the teaching staff may call the student for an oral examination, in accordance with paragraph 13 of article 110 of the Academic Regulations of the University of Évora, ensuring the conditions set out in paragraph 4 of article 116 and paragraph 1 of article 118 of the same Regulations. The oral examination will account for 60% of the final grade for the course.
