Is Assistant Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS), leading the project MU-SEARCH: Retrieving the History of Portuguese Museology: Development, Transformation and Change (2024-2030). She is Invited Assistant Professor at the History Department of the UÉvora (Portugal), where she teaches museology and cultural heritage, and is currently deputy director of the doctoral programme in History/Heritage at UÉvora.
Trained as a museologist (2009), she completed her doctorate in museology (2015) at the University of Évora. Carvalho has been working in the field of heritage and museum studies addressing innovative research that cover topics such as intangible heritage and cultural diversity, participation and digital transformation, and their intersection with public policies.
She is currently Principal Investigator of the FCT research project InMAP: Memories and Archives: Mapping the (In)tangible (2024-2025) and is member of the Working Group for Digital Access (Access Culture), a Group dedicated to digital transformation in the cultural sector.
Carvalho participated in several projects, such as: MEDHEUS (EU, Erasmus +), Project Group Museums of the Future (Portuguese Ministry of Culture); Mu.SA Museum Sector Alliance (EU, Erasmus +); BDIAS (FCT funding) and MEDINS (EU, INTERREG).
With experience in editorial work, she is currently editor-in-chief of MIDAS, Museus e Estudos Interdisciplinares and runs an award-winning academic blog about museums and museology (No Mundo dos Museus). Carvalho has participated in several editorial projects: Portuguese Museum Studies Collection, Culture. Society. Economy. Politics journal, ICOM Portugal Bulletin, and RHA Revista de História da Arte).
She is a member of ICOM, active in ICOM Portugal governing body, from 2014-2020. Her work has been awarded several times by the Portuguese Association of Museology.
