Course Overview

The Master Degree in Geological Engineering is oriented to the Labour Market. The principle is "Learning by Doing, toward competence and employability." The proposed second cycle degree program has as main objective to supply the futures masters a solid formation and integrated in the area of the Geological Engineering, mainly, Georesources and Geotechnics, it allows them capacities in several domains. The student can carry out their Dissertation / Traineeship / Project in Enterprise context. To this purpose, cooperation agreements have been established with more than 30 enterprises and institutions specialized in Geological and Geotechnical Exploration, Industrial and Ornamental Rocks, Engineering and Environmental Geology, Soil and Rock Mechanics, Slope Stability, Water Resources, Geological and Geotechnical Mapping, Mineral Resources, Inspection and Licensing of Extractive Activity. The Agreement between the University of Evora (UE) and the University of Castilla la Mancha - UCLM (Spain), allows students from both institutions to obtain a double degree of Master in Geological Engineering (UE) and the "Grado en Tecnologia Minera" (UCLM).

Career Prospects

Geological, geochemical and geophysical exploration of mineral resources. Exploitation, treatment and management of metallic and non-metallic minerals and energetic resources (mines, quarries, petroleum, coal, gas, water, geothermy, etc.). Dimension stones and industrial rocks exploitation and transformation management. Evaluation of environmental impacts of mining activity or geotechnical works and projects of environmental recovery of degraded areas. Prediction, prevention and remediation of geological and environmental risks. Geological and geotechnical studies of requested areas for engineering works (buildings, highways, railways, bridges, tunnels, airports, dams, marine works, etc.). Geological and geotechnical mapping, mining mapping, mapping to support the plans of territory management, geological risks mapping. Support to conservation works of the cultural heritage built in stone (monuments). Agencies and companies of management and distribution of water. Geotourism, geodiversity and geological heritage. Study, exploration, characterization, evaluation, implementation and improvement of geomaterials (rocks and soils). Consultancy, technical support to drilling companies. Technical coordination of quarries, geotechnical works and thermal water facilities. Teaching, investigation and technical disclosure in matters related with the Geological Engineering.

Specific Entry Requirements

1 - Degree in Geological Engineering or similar (Water Resources Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Biophysical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering, Degree in Mineral Technology from UCLM, Ingeniería Minera y Energética, among others). 2 - Degree in scientific areas, such as: Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, among others.
