Psychomotricity
Master Degree
Ano Letivo 2026/2027
Course Overview
The Master's Degree in Psychomotricity allows students to deepen their theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in assessment and intervention in the different areas of psychomotricity, especially in the therapeutic, re-educative, and developmental support fields. The programme also promotes the development of a scientific attitude through engagement with research methodologies and projects and the production of knowledge in the field.
For Level 1 Psychomotricians (Generalist Psychomotricians, graduates in Psychomotor Rehabilitation or equivalent), the Master's Degree in Psychomotricity allows them to deepen their personal, professional, and scientific training, leading to the award of the Specialist title (Level 2 Psychomotricians, by the Portuguese Association of Psychomotricity), thus establishing itself as a reference programme for specialized training. In the second year, Master's students who are also Generalist Psychomotricians may choose between an internship and the corresponding report, or a dissertation. The internship may take place in public or private institutions, in the areas of mental health and developmental support, depending on the number of students, the availability of host institutions, and university supervisors.
The Master's Degree in Psychomotricity is also open to graduates from health and education fields related to psychomotricity who are interested in developing an integrated understanding of the role of the body and movement in promoting health and well-being, as well as the methodological possibilities of psychomotricity. In the second year, these students may consolidate this pathway through a dissertation; however, they may not opt for the internship modality.
The profession is identified in the Portuguese Classification of Occupations (CPP ? 2010), developed by the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), and its importance is recognised in therapeutic, re-educational and developmental support contexts across the lifespan.
