Presentation

The objective is to give an overview of the current state of scientific knowledge in the field of Mathematics, to familiarize students with the methodology of scientific investigation, to help them in developing the dissertation plan.

Learning Goals

- The main goal consists of promoting a global perspective and the current state of the scientific knowledge in Mathematics, through contact with projects, people actively involved in research, and sharing of successful stories and experiences.
- Develop abilities related to critical reading, understanding, and summarizing existing scientific work.

Contents

- Presentations by the institutional faculty and researchers from CIMA-UÉ, and by external guest researchers, to publicize their research areas.
- Research methodologies. Phases of elaboration of a scientific work. Presentation and dissemination of scientific works.
- Preparation and presentation of dissertation plans by students.

Teaching Methods

Presentations by the institutional faculty and/or external guests, on various topics that may be of interest to the dissertation of the students.
Students will have to attend at least 50% of the seminars and choose at least two topics to elaborate, under supervision, a monograph on each of these. The final score will be the arithmetic mean of the classifications obtained in the two monographs. The student must prepare and present the development plan of his thesis.
This UC does not allow evaluation by examination.
