Presentation

The French Language I of level A2 (Elementary) aims at acquiring allows for the acquisition and development of the oral and written skills (production, reception and interaction), grammar practice and vocabulary enhancement, in accordance with the recommendations produced by the Council of Europe A2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment).

Oral Production:
Can give a simple description or presentation of people, living or working conditions, daily routines.
Written Production:
Can write a series of simple phrases and sentences linked with simple connectors like ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘because’.
Listening comprehension:
Can understand enough to be able to meet needs of a concrete type provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated.
Reading comprehension:
Can understand short, simple texts on familiar matters of a concrete type which consist of high
frequency everyday or job-related language.
Spoken Interaction:
Can interact with reasonable ease in structured situations and short conversations, provided the other person helps if necessary; can ask and answer questions and exchange ideas and information on familiar topics.
Written Interaction:
Can write short, simple formulaic notes relating to matters in areas of immediate need.

1. Orality
Oral understanding:
Listening to public announcements;
Listening to media;

Public announcements (information, instructions);
Speaking from notes;
Singing;
Oral Interaction:
Obtain goods and services;
Information exchange;
Casual conversation;
Understanding a native speaker;

2. Writing
Written understanding:
Reading for orientation;
Reading and following instructions;
Reading for pleasure;
Written production:
Completing forms and questionnaires;
Producing posters for display;
Taking down messages from dictation;
Creative writing;
Written Interaction:
Participating in on-line or off-line computer conferences;
Passing and exchanging notes, memos.

3. Gramática
Les adjectifs et pronom démonstratifs;
Les adjectifs et pronoms possessifs;
Les adjectifs et pronoms indéfinis;
Le Passé Composé, l’Imparfait, le Futur simple; le Subjonctif Présent; l’Impératif;
La négation;
La construction passive;
L’accord du Participe Passé.

Teaching Methods

According to the descriptors established for the level A2 in the CEFR, the methodology adopted will focus on the acquisition and development of oral and written skills (production, reception and interaction), grammar practice and vocabulary enhancement.
Evaluation:
According to the Regulamento Académico da Universidade de Évora and the Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos – Critérios definidos pelo Departamento de Linguística e Literaturas.
Students may choose between two modes of assessment:
Assessment:
(1) Continuous assessment:
a. Written quiz (35%);
b. Oral quiz (25%);
The notes obtained in the written and oral test may not be less than 8 values.
c. Assignments, throughout the semester, in and at home (20%+20%).
(2) Exam (1st and 2nd, special and extraordinary calls): a. Written exam (60%); b. Oral exam (40%).
