To improve the capacity of systematic understanding in Biology, critical analysis and synthesis of ideas,
communication with peers, with the academic community and with the society in general.
The specific objectives are:
1- to contribute to a comprehensive view of current research in Biology, focusing on several areas and
their biological models, experimental methodologies and technical approaches, applications and impact in
today's society;
2 –to promote entrepreneurship and employability of students after completion of the cycle, through
contact with diverse professional contexts, not just related to research and teaching;
3 –to develop skills in oral communication, either through attending the weekly seminars presented by
invited speakers, or through oral presentations by students in the evaluation of the UC.

Contents

The content consists of seminars focusing on different areas of research in biology. These seminars or lectures are presented by professors and researchers of the University of Evora or other institutions, by invitation of the CAE and Professors of the PhD course. These seminars are open to the academic community, including students of 1st and 2nd cycles, being announced by email to members of ECT (School of Sciences and Technology) and students. It may include short courses as well. It is also intended that students contact with concrete examples of companies in the field of biological sciences, including biotechnology, consulting, environmental impact studies, among others.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology consists primarily in the seminars presented by faculty / researchers on their research topic. Students are encouraged to ask questions to the speakers at the end of the seminar. Student’s assessment consists of an oral presentation of 20 min. (supported in a Powerpoint or similar format) on the topic of the thesis, followed by 10 minutes of discussion with the jury of the UC.
