Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
This course aims to inform students about the techniques of groundwater prospecting and the more
appropriate methods for groundwater abstraction.
It is intended that in the end the student can do a working project for groundwater abstraction.

Contents
Geophysical methods for prospecting and exploration of groundwater: Geoelectrics, VLF, Seismic, Gravity,
Magnetic, Georadar.
Hydrogeology of Portugal. Use of different methods of prospecting according to the different types of
aquifer.
Execution of wells. Methodology and appropriateness of the methodologies to real conditions of terrain
and geology.
Flow tests and its importance for defining the hydraulic characteristics of aquifers and the establishment
of exploitation rates.

Teaching Methods
Theorical lectures, theorical-practical lectures and field work. The theoretical classes will be taught using PowerPoint presentations, and the theoretical-practical classes will be taught based on the interpretation of flow tests using logarithmic and semi-logarithmic paper sheets, based on various scientific methodologies. In the field, students will have access to drilling places for groundwater abstraction and the opportunity to observe drilling equipments and the construction of wells.
Assessment
The evaluation proccess is by tests during the lecture period and by final exam. There will be an obligatory written report of the field work. The tests and exam will represent 70% of the final classification and the field report 30%.
