Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

Apprehension of basic knowledge about mechanics and resistance of materials, so that students can better reconcile structural systems with architectural design.

Contents

Introduction. Gravity acceleration. Mass and weight. Notion of moment of a force. S.I. Units
Particle equilibrium. Notion of force. Traction and compression. Diagram of axial forces. Notion of tension and extension. Law of Hooke. Linear and non-linear behavior. Elastic and plastic behavior. Behavior fragile and ductile.

Teaching Methods

The course is organised into theoretical-practical classes, which are organised into oral presentations, exercises and discussions.

Assessment

The grade for this course may result from one of the following assessment methods: continuous assessment or final exam.
Continuous assessment by attendance: FinalGrade = (0.60xF) + (0.30xT) + (0.10xA)
Assessment by regular exam: FinalGrade = (0.70xEN) + (0.20xT) + (0.10xA)
Assessment by resit exam, special exam, and extraordinary exam: FinalGrade = (0.80xEN) + (0.20xT)

Where:
FinalGrade - cannot be less than 10 points.
F - 2 tests whose arithmetic mean cannot be less than 10 points and the minimum grade in each test cannot be less than 7.5 points.
EN - exam whose minimum grade is 10 points.
E - exam whose minimum grade is 10 points.
T - works to be done during the period
A - attendance.

Class attendance is mandatory (75% of classes).
