Health, Technologies and Well-being Sciences

Doctoral Degree

Ano Letivo 2024/2025

Course Overview

This study cycle results from a process of intense collaboration between academic institutions and the proposing research centers, with 3 nuclear aspects that underlie its relevance: a. The complexity and centrality of Health, whose understanding requires a perspective that is anchored in transdisciplinarity. It is equally accepted that health intervention cannot continue to be developed based on models centered on professions and these being organised in monolithic, corporative and hierarchical structures, which must be transprofessional. Considering the social determinants of health, intervention in it should not only be clinical in a restricted sense, but also organizational, social and political. Research is a determining factor for the quality of care provided, which should integrate the skills of health professionals in order to allow a quick translation of knowledge into the health care; b. The Phd as a response to professional development needs, insofar as training and qualification in Health and Welfare Sciences and Technologies is a way to strengthen human capital skills and develop rigorous instruments to understand complex health situations and intervene in problem solving; c. The Phd as a co-built development path ? through the transversal skills course in which aspects such as research ethics, the dissemination of science, among others, are developed.
