Summary
The imposed simplifications by most of the methods of finite source study fails, when the earthquakes magnitude is larger than ~8.7In this project we intended to develop a computational algorithm to perform a systematic and detailed study of extended seismic sources, independently its dimension and geometry. The notion that governs the development of this method is to reproduces the earthquake effects to a set of sites in near field and far field. It will be structured to operate from a joint utilization of the three categories of available data:
- superficial measurements of the elastic motions produced in near field - strong motions;
- superficial measurements of the elastic motions produced in far field – teleseismic waveforms;
- measurements of permanent superficial deformation (co-seismic) produced in the proximities of the source, obtained through satellite technologies: GPS and Diferential Interferometry of Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR).
