This UC has a relevant role in the mathematical formation of students, not only by its theoretical mathematical content but also by its applications to other scientific areas.

Learning Goals

With this discipline students can acquire a more comprehensive idea of Mathematics beyond the mathematical content learned and acquired during the course. The main idea is to allow students to be aware of relevant themes and subjects associated with scientific research undertaken by professors from the UÉ Mathematics Department (DMAT), inserted in the research lines of the Research Center in Mathematics Applications at UÉ (CIMA). The speakers for the seminars will be preferentially, but not exclusively, DMAT faculty and CIMA researchers.

Seminars will address contents associated to themes on which speakers develop their present or past scientific research, supported by their scientific publications.

Teaching Methods

Students should attend all talks throughout the semester, choosing two of them to prepare a monograph on each of the talks, or on a related theme, under the supervision of the speaker.

Assessment

Attendance of at least 75% of the talks is mandatory, and a necessary requirement to pass.
