Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

1. Understand the anatomical, physiological, and psychosocial foundations of facial aging.
2. Identify the main facial and neck structures associated with skin and muscular changes resulting from aging.
3. Apply anatomical and functional knowledge in facial assessment and in self-care and well-being education.
4. Promote health literacy, self-care, and self-esteem as key components of healthy aging and quality of life.

Contents

The syllabus addresses the anatomical, physiological, and psychosocial bases of facial aging, aligned with the learning objectives and with the principle of integrating science, health, and well-being.
The thematic sequence ? from understanding the biological and structural mechanisms of aging to facial analysis and self-care strategies ? fosters the progressive development of scientific, clinical, and educational competencies applicable to promoting healthy aging, enhancing body image, and strengthening self-esteem.

Teaching Methods

The course unit adopts active, participatory, and student-centered methodologies that integrate scientific knowledge, reflective practice, and professional ethics. Short theoretical sessions, Case-Based Learning (CBL), Problem-Based Learning (PBL), guided facial self-analysis, clinical simulations, and critical reflection activities are employed.
This approach fosters meaningful and experiential learning, linking theory, practice, and care values in alignment with the pedagogical model of the University of Évora, which emphasizes autonomy, research, and the development of applied health and well-being competencies. Supported by the MedTech-Next Project, the course incorporates advanced technological resources, including digital environments and interactive platforms for training.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and based on the preparation of an educational plan for facial self-care, supported by current scientific evidence and aligned with the principles of healthy aging and well-being promotion. The assessment process values the practical application of knowledge and critical reflection on the educational intervention.
Formative feedback is provided throughout the development of the educational plan, fostering continuous improvement and the consolidation of acquired competencies.
