Learning Goals
Considering that the scientific and technological evolution of the swine, poultry and rabbit sectors is highly considerable, the following objetives are defined: By the appropriate semiotic evaluation and susceptibility of these industrialized and more efficient production systems, and considering the previous skills previously acquired in disciplines from the zootechnical and clinical areas, students should develop competences to: i) perform anamnesis, integrating the clinical history with the productive management model; ii) perform the most appropriate diagnostic procedures; iii) interpret the semiotic information to establish the diagnosis and iv) implement the more adequate therapeutic measures and advise on the most effective prophylaxis options for the production model.
Contents
Swine diseases: Integration of management/susceptibility/prophylaxis/therapy. Affections with greater expression/relevance in different pig production systems: etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment. Biosafety in swine production.
Poultry diseases: The structure of poultry production and the chain of susceptibility associated with different species and production systems. The anatomophysiological characteristics of fowl and their relationship with management needs and susceptibility. Main avian disorders, their etiology, epidemiology, prophylaxis and treatment. Biosafety in industrialized poultry farming.
Rabbit diseases: Modern rabbit production systems. Main conditions of industrialized rabbit farming, its etiology, epidemiology, prophylaxis and treatment. Biosafety in high efficiency rabbit farming.

Teaching Methods
Theoretical-practical sessions: Given the high specificity and professionalizing context of these different species clinical activity, plenary sessions are taught in a theoretical-practical model, by professionals specialized in different productive realities. In this teaching modality, presentations start by introducing the different components of the program, followed by the observation and discussion of specific cases, in order to stimulate a skill-conferring approach. Evaluation: Written assessment by frequency or final exam.
