Understand the influence of the educator in the relationship of support in the area of child/family health;

Learn about risk situations that have an impact on the child's quality of life.

Contents

Development stages and health screening, issues that educators can recognise and report.
Health promotion and prevention of risk scenarios.
The role of nutrition in child development.
Nutritional imbalances, obesity and malnutrition, comorbidities.
Sleep disorders, their impact on children's well-being.
Chronic illness, alarm signs, limitations on learning and school success.
Child abuse, typology, epidemiology, alert signs, support mechanisms.
Urgent health cases in children, first aid, guidelines for handling complex health problems.

Teaching Methods

Methodologies will be used to stimulate students' personal and professional development, based on reflection, critical thinking and on-going analysis, guided and organised in lectures and tutorials. Individual and group reflection opportunities will also be created.

Assessment

Implementation of the active and collaborative Design Thinking methodology. Group work (80%): Students will form groups to develop a joint project, applying Design Thinking to solve a Child Health challenge. Evaluation will be based on the application of the steps of Design Thinking, the quality of the solutions, and collaboration among group members.
Oral presentation (20%): Evaluates students' presence, involvement, and contribution in discussions.
The final evaluation of the course unit is the weighted result of partial evaluations, Project applying Design Thinking steps (80%) and Oral presentation (20%).
The exam evaluations performed by a written test.
