Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
This unit aims to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the main manufacturing processes for mechatronic systems and to develop the theoretical and practical understanding necessary for their application in engineering. This course will enable students to: (i) Develop an understanding of the theoretical aspects of the main manufacturing processes for mechatronic systems, complemented by practical examples; (ii) Equip students with the ability to make informed choices about manufacturing processes, taking into account product requirements. These objectives contribute to the development of essential technical skills in the area of manufacturing processes.
Contents
1) Introduction: theoretical foundations for manufacturing processes.
2) Technological processes of plastic forming: complements of bulk and sheet forming.
3) Technological cutting processes by CNC cutting and punching.
4) Numerical simulation of plastic deformation processes.

Teaching Methods
The teaching and learning methodologies of this curricular unit are structured to integrate theory and practice, promoting the direct application of concepts in theoretical or simulated contexts. Theoretical lessons use PowerPoint presentations and illustrative videos to introduce the theoretical foundations of the manufacturing processes studied. Self-assessment quizzes are also used in some of the theoretical classes. The theoretical-practical classes are supplemented with exercises, case studies and discussions of application examples using specialised manufacturing process simulation software. In at least one of the theoretical-practical classes, a study visit to a local company is organised to illustrate one of the manufacturing processes studied. The pedagogical model is further reinforced by the use of the digital platform Moodle, where support materials are made available.
Assessment
The assessment elements of the curricular unit are graded on a scale from [0, 20]. Continuous assessment or final exam assessment is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the University of Évora.
The assessment method consists of the following components:
[P] Series of 5 problems (25%);
[T] Test (75%);
[E] Final Examination
Students can choose between one of two possible assessment methods, where the Final Grade [FG] is calculated as follows:
1) CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT: FG = 0.25*P +0.75*T
if FG>= 9.5 ^ P>= 9.5 ^ T>= 8.0 then student is Approved.
2) FINAL ASSESSMENT: FG = E
if FG>= 9.5 then the student is Approved.
