Project title | Ecologies of impact and value of educational mobilities: young adults returning to low-density regions after higher education
Project Code | COMPETE2030-FEDER-00874300
Main objective | ROOTS aims to explore the value of educational investment in low-density regions, often labelled as 'sending regions,' where skilled individuals leave for higher-density areas. It assesses if regions that invest in attachment and education attract more young adults to return home, bringing with them new skills, investment and community resilience, helping to promote inclusion, cohesion, and well-being (Silva et al., 2022; Silva, 2021). Studies also show they can promote entrepreneurship and employment and engage in cultural and environmental preservation activities and cultural heritage protection. Returnees can serve also as role models for young people, as individuals or organisations.
